AHRC Student-Led Initiative Scheme

Filed under: Information for Staff, Information for Students, Research Funding, Training — graduateresearchschool @ 2:21 pm

AHRC student-led initiative scheme provides funding for Arts and Humanities Postgraduates to establish their own training provision and be involved in the organisation and dissemination of training. It is not restricted to AHRC-funded research students.

The Arts and Humanities Research Council invites applications to its new Student-Led Initiative Scheme.

The aim of the Student-Led Initiative Scheme is to support the establishment of innovative collaborative research training programmes, originated by and run for postgraduate doctoral students.

The Student-Led Initiative Scheme is part of the AHRC’s Collaborative Research Training Scheme, and provides awards of up to £2000 towards the costs of setting up a training project, activity, and/or event.

The scheme is open to any arts and humanities postgraduate student in the UK and operates on a rolling deadline with applications accepted throughout the year.

Eligible activities could include (for example):

Conferences (as long as these are student-led and student organised)
Career Development Initiatives
Networks or Research Forums
Journals or on-line web resources, which could include students both submitting, reviewing and editing papers, as well as students organising and administering the journal
On-line video resources
Roundtable events with academics and practitioners in the relevant field to discuss career pathways and career development issues
Showcase/Demonstration Events, where students can present their research to local or national employers, government bodies, community organisations, media, primary and secondary educational pupils, etc
Knowledge Transfer Activities, involving interaction between students and non-academic organisations.

The AHRC is keen to see proposals outlining innovative practices that will benefit a wide range of postgraduate researchers, either by their involvement in the organisation of the programme, or by participation in the training activity.

The Guidance Notes and application form for the scheme can be downloaded from the AHRC website:
