Part-time Researcher Workshop 2009
The Midlands Hub is running a series of Part Time Researcher Workshops in 2009. The one-day events are run at a number of Midlands universities and are free to all PT research students studying at one of the member universities.

Careers in focus: Careers in academia
Vitae is running a one-day event at the University of Birmingham on Monday 8th June exploring what a career in academia is like and examining the skills you will need to enter and succeed in this career.

e-pisteme, a postgraduate electronic journal based in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
e-pisteme, a postgraduate electronic journal based in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Newcastle University, is dedicated to publishing fresh and vibrant research of the highest quality from postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers. The journal focuses on themes that reach across disciplines, seeking to challenge traditionally defined ways of thinking and conducting research. e-pisteme is an international platform for academic exchange publishing peer-reviewed scholarly articles by early career researchers.
The editors invite contributions for the forthcoming issue on the theme of GENDER from postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers working across the Humanities and Social Sciences.
Suggested areas for articles include, but are not restricted to:

University of Worcester Research Collections: Open Afternoons
Since the University of Worcester Research Collections have recently moved to Bredon, and expanded, the ILS Research Team will be holding two Open Afternoons to introduce colleagues to our new location and collections. The details of the Open Afternoons are as follows:
Monday 18th May 2009 and Thursday 21st May 2009, 2:00 to 4:00 (BB27 and BB29)
The following collections will be available:
- Three collections of adventure stories – Brown, Wynne and Westermann.
- The Elkin Collection of multicultural children’s literature including some high quality picture books.
- The Kays Archive – take a trip down memory lane with the catalogues. In addition to catalogues, this new collection includes sets of business papers, photographs and artefacts covering the work of Kays.
- And there’s more …
Plus an added extra: Janet Davidson will also be available for advice on depositing material in WRaP (Worcester Research and Publications).

Phd Business Students Training Session – University of Wolverhampton
The University of Wolverhampton Business School’s Management Research Centre (MRC) is holding its next Doctoral Business Research Student Training Day on Thursday 21st May 2009 entitled “Aspects of Qualitative Research Methods for Business and Management”. This is one of a number of sessions that the MRC are scheduling for its students.
Wolverhampton is prepared to provide a small number of places for PhD research students studying at other institutions in the area to attend these sessions, on the proviso that a reciprocal arrangement can be reached for its own students to likewise gain access to study benefits elsewhere.
